Dawn Chubai was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. after competing in several local talent competitions, she began singing with the Edmonton Musical Theatre Group as a teenager. Following her muse, Dawn then started singing jazz, inspired by classic vocalists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Anita O'Day and Billie Holiday as well as more modern singers like Cassandra Wilson. Although clearly meant for the stage, Dawn worked a variety of day jobs while polishing her talent. After working in public relations for years and moonlighting as a jazz singer, Dawn then fell into a very different career.
Dawn's singing jump-started her work in television. With a high profile as one of Edmonton's top jazz singers and numerous televised performances, it was only a matter of time before Dawn was catapulted into the world of television. In 1999, A-Channel Edmonton approached Dawn to work at the station. She spent five years with A-Channel as a weather broadcaster and then relocated to Vancouver in 2004. Dawn is currently employed by City TV Vancouver as a TV Host for Breakfast Television. Dawn has also hosted CityTV's CityLine and hosted several seasons of the popular Realty Television.
A natural performer, it wasn't long before Dawn hit the big screen with principal roles in movies and television. Her credits include feature films such as Twilight: Eclipse, Mission Impossible 4 (starring Tom Cruise), and Fantastic Four 2 (starring Jessica Alba) along with several made for TV movies (movies of the week). She has also appeared on several TV series such as V, the The L Word, Caprica, Stargate SG-1 (starring Richard Dean Anderson) and The Dead Zone (starring Anthony Michael Hall). Dawn has also appeared in a number of national commercial spots for BMW, Suave Shampoo, Bud Light, Microsoft and West Jet to name a few.
Dawn has also recently expanded her role as a professional speaker in her most recent keynote address on " the Importance of Social Media" to a local women's networking group.
Dawn also uses her celebrity status to help local charities in Vancouver. In cooperation with City TV, Dawn emcees as many as 40 events per year, helping to raise money for many worthwhile causes such as Big Sisters of the Lower Mainland, the Children’s Wish Foundation and SOS Childrens Charities. As a member of the organizing committee for the 2005 Women's Media Golf Classic, Dawn helped raise money for Variety, the Children's Charity. Dawn's most recent appearance included the Women United in Philanthropy Fashion show, raising $40K in one hour for the United Way's Success by 6 program.
